Creatine is a naturally formed amino acid that is found in
the human body, especially around the skeletal muscle. The human body generates
Creatine naturally, partly from the diet we take and partly on its own. A
healthy person has about 120g of Creatine, most of it being in the form of a
compound called PCr. The body can store a maximum Creatine quantity of 0.3 g
per one kilogram of body weight. The body produces about 2g of Creatine per
day. The chief food sources of Creatine are fish and r... Continue reading ...

The benefits of a good strength training program are almost
endless. Less disease, happiness and most importantly, showing off your muscles
at the beach.
Strength training should be part of everyone's routine. Even
if you are low on time, strength training, according to the ACSM (American
College of Sports Medicine), only needs to be done 2-3 times per week with each
session lasting no more than one hour. For 2-3 hours per week, huge benefits
can be realized.
Regular strength training wil... Continue reading ...

Chair Yoga can easily work in harmony with most physical
rehabilitation prescriptions. Many physical therapists have knowledge of Yoga or
are teachers of Yoga. Many doctors, physical therapists, and medical
professionals recommend Yoga to patients who are making a “come back.”
Yoga gives these patients the strength to move ahead, when
many would be discouraged. The comebacks that I have personally witnessed are
inspiring to me as a Yoga teacher. Over time, I have seen come backs from
st... Continue reading ...

Flexibility is considered to be a “by product” of Yoga
practice, but in the case of Chair Yoga, it is often “down played” or taken for
granted. Since most Chair Yoga enthusiasts are seniors, the true value of
flexibility is mobility.
When you consider that mobility for seniors can be the
difference between dependence and independence, flexibility is now of extreme
value.
The following is an observation I have made after working
with groups from assisted living complexes, adult day... Continue reading ...

We have all heard the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
Those words are extremely profound, when thinking about correcting poor posture
and alignment. It takes years to create poor alignment.
Therefore, poor posture cannot be corrected in a single day.
A more appropriate saying, when thinking about posture and alignment might be,
“The leaning tower of Pisa cannot become straight in a week.”
However, improvements to posture can be made through Chair
Yoga exercises and through... Continue reading ...

While the
practice of therapeutic massage has been used for centuries in the east, it is
a relatively recent phenomenon here in the west. While the wonders of modern medicine have
left many awestruck, more and more people are looking towards complimentary
therapies and non-invasive treatments for their ailments. Massage therapy has never been as popular as
it is today in America.
A number of
studies have shown that massage therapy is a highly effective stress reduction
technique. An earl... Continue reading ...

In many
exercise programs, be it weight lifting for building and toning muscles or
cardio vascular exercises for increasing stamina and to lose weight, most
people do not perform enough stretching exercises even though stretching
exercises can be performed by anyone at any age unless that person has some
physical restriction to stretch. What is worse, many people do not even stretch
before and after exercising. Unknown to most people, stretching also has anti
aging benefits.
